From Montclair SEPAC: (BloomfieldSEPAC Kids Have been graciously invited.)

“Movie Club for Kids with Special Needs!聽馃榾

Many of you know Ash and Meg Hammond, of SDFC and soccer dome fame, and remember the many soccer and fitness programs they’ve held in the past for kids with special needs. They recently started CPSoccer for players with CP or traumatic brain injury. You may also remember their son Shea, who often worked with our kids during those programs with incredible patience and intuition. Shea is currently training with the United State’s National Paralympic Men’s Soccer Team.

Shea and a partner have now started a movie club through their school, MKA, for kids with special needs. They are holding their first even this coming Friday evening at MKA, showing Moana. They’ve asked me to pass the information along so, please see below.

Hello All! Our names are Adam Erbes and Shea Hammond, and we are the heads of a club at our school, Montclair Kimberley Academy, called VIP Adventures. Our club was formed to host events where special needs kids can come, hang out, have fun, and make a ton of new friends! Our first event is a movie night with the information below. Please use the link below to sign up if your child will be attending for this fun evening. Based on allergies, there will most likely be pizza and/or popcorn for the kids. We hope to see you and your child there!

What: Movie Night! The movie is Moana. (PG)

When: Friday, October 20. Sign in will be at 6pm and the movie will begin at 6:30. Pick-Up at 8:30..

Where: Montclair Kimberley Academy Academic Center – 6 Lloyd Rd, Montclair, NJ 07042.

Other: You (parent/guardian/etc.) are welcome to stay with your child for the event, but it is not necessary as Shea, I, and the other volunteers from our high school (MKA) all have a lot of experience working with special needs kids.”

Bloomfield SEPAC Begins a New School Year/Grupo de Apoyo de Padres en Educaci贸n Especial

BLOOMFIELD SEPAC is an independent, volunteer-run organization made up of parents helping parents. SEPAC helps parents become better informed about Special Education in the Bloomfield school district. We provide resources and support for families of students who require an IEP and special services while at school. We work in a cooperative effort with the Bloomfield Special Services Department and the Bloomfield Board of Education to help ensure every child is getting the best education possible.

SEPAC meetings provide, but are not limited to, information on how to read an IEP, what channels go through if you have questions and concerns about your child鈥檚 education and services, what you can do about bullying, knowing your child鈥檚 and family鈥檚 legal rights, and how to handle transitions for your child.

Please visit our website and join our Facebook page for more information.

We look forward to seeing you at our meetings this year.
