April is Autism Awarness Month. April 2 is World Autism Day! Glen Ridge has two informative Special Ed Meetings.

Our friends at the Glen Ridge Association for Special Education have graciously invited all Bloomfield SEPAC Members to two informative evenings in celebration of Autism Awareness Month. The first is April 2, 2019 at Forest Avenue Elementary School. 287 Forest Avenue, Glen Ridge, NJ. 07028 at 7 P.M,

Tuesday, April 2nd at 7pm (Forest Ave) – Executive Function & School Success – Presentation by Dr. Paul Yellin of The Yellin Center for Mind, Brain, and Education in New York City. What is executive function and how does it effect a child’s ability to learn and develop? What does it mean for success in school? What are practical recommendations for helping my child who may have some challenges with executive function? This is a can’t miss presentation from Dr. Yellin who is considered an expert in the field of developmental-behavioral pediatrics.

Next up is:

Thursday, April 4th at 7pm (Glen Ridge HS) – A showing of Temple Grandin – This is an HBO original movie starring Claire Danes who won an Emmy and Golden Globe Award for her portrayal of Temple Grandin, an autistic woman who overcame the limitations imposed on her by her condition to become a Ph.D. and expert in the field of animal husbandry.
