There was a short update about items discussed at the September Meeting with Superintendent Salvatore Goncalves and the results from the questions raised at that meeting

We are indebted to Brookdale Elementary School Resource Teacher Jason Triano for his informative presentation about a new study on how people with autism perceive things. Mr. Triano include  a series of photos that highlighted areas that people with autism may focus on and how these differences may help change the way educators teach, based upon these new perceptions.

Members contributed a good group of little successes their children have made recently during our Marvelous Marble ending session. The next Bloomfield SEPAC Meeting is Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Brookdale Elementary School from 7 – 9 P.M. This Meeting is tentatively schedule to have Ms. Dawn Monaco from NJ SPAN giving a workshop on Transition for high school students into College, Careers and the world after school….

Kevin Casey is the new Executive Director of The New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities (NJCDD). Mr. Casey has an extensive background in management and public policy which has a vital role in ensuring people with intellectual and other developmental
disabilities have a forum and a voice in matters that directly affect their lives.

For the past 11 years, Mr. Casey led the Illinois and Pennsylvania state divisions that oversee services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Previously, he led nonprofit organizations that provided services for people with developmental disabilities, including serving for 15 years as the director of Pennsylvania Protection & Advocacy, Inc. Mr. Casey is a graduate of Illinois State University with a degree in Social Sciences and a Master’s Degree in Special Education.

Regional Family Support Planning Council 4 (Essex County) is a group of volunteer family members of inividuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities who host public forums to obtain input to improve family support services provided by the Department of Human
Services (Division of Developmental Disabilities) and Department of Children and Families.

Bloomfield SEPAC Meeting on 11-18-15 at BHS from 7 – 9 PM

logo_sepac1blueWe are delighted to have noted Bloomfield Resource Teacher Jason Triano, as our Special Guest Speaker at Bloomfield High School on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 7 – 9 P.M.

Mr. Triano will be filling us in about a fascinating new study that deals with the perception of people with autism. There will be an Open Forum afterwards with Mr. Triano taking questions from our Bloomfield SEPAC Member Parents about this Study or anything relating to special education.

DATH Toy & Clothing Drive – Dec. 5, 2015. 12 – 4 P.M (Please note the new drop off location.)

Our friends at DATH, (Development and Advancing Through Humanities) led by Bloomfield SEPAC Mom, Gilda Morales will be collecting Toys & Clothing for kids and families in need on Saturday, December 5, 2015, from 12-4 P.M. at 511 Summer Avenue, Newark NJ 07104.
